Impaired Driving

There are a variety of criminal offences related to the charge of Impaired Driving (Drunk Driving, DUI): Failing the Breathalyzer / Over .08, Refusal, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Impaired Driving Causing Death.
Drug Offences

There are many criminal laws involving drugs. It is a criminal offence to possess, sell, grow or manufacture a number of controlled drugs and substances.
Sexual Offences

The Criminal Code contains a number of sex related offences including sexual assault, child pornography, sexual interference, sexual touching, sexual exploitation, prostitution offences and obscenity allegations.
Motor Vehicle Offences

The Criminal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act create numerous offences in regard to driving a motor vehicle.
Assault & Other Violent Crimes

The Criminal Code includes various charges relating to assault which range in seriousness from Common Assault to Assault Causing Bodily Harm or the even more serious charge of Aggravated Assault. Assault is deemed “Domestic” when it occurs in the context of a relationship.
Weapon Offences

The Criminal Code contains many weapons related offences which are dealt with seriously and harshly. It can be an offence to possess, carry, handle, store or use an illegal firearm.

Abby Metcalf is a criminal defence attorney based in Halifax. Abby serves clients throughout the province of Nova Scotia.

Abby received her Juris Doctor degree from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. In her last year of law school, Abby spent a semester interning at the Dartmouth Crown attorney office where she gained valuable experience before focusing on criminal defence. Prior to entering private practice Abby completed her Articles at the Nova Scotia Legal Aid adult and youth criminal offices.

Abby has experience representing clients who have been charged under the Criminal Code and provincial legislation such as the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

In 2023, Abby was the recipient of the Dawn Russell Community Commitment Award. Abby is committed to helping her clients navigate the criminal justice process and mitigating access to justice issues for her clients.
