Criss is a criminal defence lawyer based in Halifax, serving clients throughout Nova Scotia. His practice focuses on criminal defence, with particular experience in cases involving cybercrime, digital evidence, and technology-related investigations.

Before entering the practice of law, Criss spent more than 22 years in policing, where he investigated and supervised a wide range of criminal matters, including assaults, thefts, break and enters, impaired driving, and complex investigations involving electronic evidence. That background gives him a practical understanding of how criminal investigations are conducted and how investigative errors, assumptions, and procedural gaps can arise.

Criss has extensive experience with digital evidence. During his policing career, he developed and delivered a cybercrime investigations workshop taught across Nova Scotia to more than 600 law enforcement officers, focused on the lawful seizure and preservation of electronic evidence. He later served as a Cellebrite Certified Master Instructor, teaching advanced digital forensics and the analysis of electronic data, including mobile devices and digital records.

This experience allows Criss to carefully examine electronic evidence such as text messages, call records, device extractions, location data, and cloud-based information, and to challenge the reliability and handling of that evidence in criminal proceedings.

Criss holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, a Masters of Science, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Laws, along with advanced training in forensic computing and cybercrime investigations. He is a member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.

Criss is committed to providing clear, focused, and thorough representation, and to guiding clients through the criminal justice process while protecting their rights at every stage.
